Syllabi Submission Please be sure to submit your syllabi both electronically (via email) AND in hard copy to Ms. Doreen Williams and Dr. Cristina Migliaccio by Week 2 of the semester. It is important to have all the syllabi on file; please continue to use the syllabus template that has been distributed. You can find sample syllabi for both ENGL 112 and ENGL 150 on this site.
Faculty Observations For Teaching Observation purposes, syllabi for BOTH ENGL 112 and 150 should have a critical essay assignment BY WEEK 4 or 5 of the semester. In order to successfully complete Teaching Observations, your Peer Observer must be able to review student writing samples of a critical essay. For this reason, please make sure you have scheduled a major/critical writing assignment BY WEEK 4 or 5 so that the observer will have immediate access to graded student writing samples in your classes.
Course Assessment As the English Department moves forward with its efforts in assessing both teaching and learning outcomes, we are requesting that you complete the attached Course Level Assessment of Student Learning as part of your Teaching Observation. Please note the assessment is only necessary for ONE (1) assignment; you will use the rubric to assess THREE (3) different student submissions of the same assignment. If you have any questions, please email Dr. Cristina Migliaccio at [email protected] and I will try to help you navigate the process.
BlackBoard Usage We will continue to utilize Blackboard in BOTH ENGL 112 and 150. Instructors should set up their Blackboard sites for their respective class(es) for student access BEFORE the start of the semester. As well, please be advised that Safe Assign or Turnitin submissions for student essays will also be required. Over the course of the semester, the English Department as well as the college will have a number of Blackboard workshops. Steve Wymore will schedule dedicated time to assist any ENGL 112 / 150 Instructor who needs help setting up his/her Blackboard site. Please contact Steve at [email protected] or 718.270.4866. Again, It is important in online classes that students have access to syllabi and most course materials for the semester before the classes begin so that they can plan ahead. If you have any difficulty, please let me know so I can try to help with Blackboard. You can contact me at [email protected].

Children brought on campus must be directly supervised at all times by their parent or guardian. http://www.mec.cuny.edu/Human-Resources/Children-on-Campus.aspx
Conversion Days To ensure that all courses meet the same number of times in the semester, the University “converts” certain days; thus, for example, a Monday may be “converted” into a Tuesday to ensure a balanced number of class meetings. Be sure to detail these changes in the Academic Calendar in your syllabus/course schedule.
English 112 and 150 Final Assignments The college publishes a schedule of final exams. Please Note: English 112 and English 150 do not have final exams. The final assignment for English 112 is the Portfolio. The final assignment for English 150 is the MLA Research Essay. Final Grades Passing Grades: A+, A, A- / B+, B, B-/ C+, C Please note there is NO "C Minus" or any "D" grades available for these classes. NC Grade: If the student has completed all class assignments but needs more work on his/her writing, s/he may receive an "NC" grade. Each student can only receive ONE "NC" grade for the course. This means if the student has already received an "NC" for a previous 112 or 150, s/he would received a grade of "F" and not "NC."
